The latest mass shootings by home-grown American terrorists come during a massive corruption scandal at the organization popularly known as No Reasonable American. Thus some hope (though we’ve been here before) for legislative movement against self-militarized airheads without background checks having easy access to battlefield weapons.
In the course of reading about this I discovered the website of the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. See for instance their excellent page on firearms deaths around the world – currently running at more than a quarter of a million a year, or one every two minutes – and the six countries that account for half of all those deaths. For perspective: in a typical recent year, all the groups in the world listed as terrorist organizations by the State Department kill about 1/20 of that number.
